Space Invaders Infinity Gene Review

A step up the gene pool see Spaces Invader Infinity Gene, the next stage of evolution for the classics arcade series and a really good shoot em up to boot. The side stepping aliens the caused a worldwide sensation with the arcade release of Spaces Invaders in 1978 have come back with a vengeance during the past few years, with 2008′s Space Invaders Extreme and its sequel cleverly updating the shoot-’em-up classic for a whole new generation of high-score fiends. Spaces Invader Infinity Gene is that this latest invasion and the good new is it shows no signs of flagging and is the most exciting in the series so far.

From the first time you play Spaces Invader Infinity Gene it feels very much like the 1978 original: as your ship from left to right along the bottom of the screen, shooting  at the invaders. The more stages you complete new evolutions appear as the UFO’s start dropping power-ups to boost your weapon, add extra lives and the ability to move in all directions freeing you from the bottom of the screen, This is essential if you are to progress in the game

The initial excitement of discovering new evolutions becomes a little disappointing at the upgrades aren’t always what you expect as a new audio track isn’t really what’s needed but the later evolutions make up for that with a field that surrounds you shop  and automatically attacks anything within a radius and an array of lases and other weapons.

After the 30 stages of the main game mode, normal mode, it becomes a case of just one more level. The evolution of space invaders sees attacks from not only UFOs, octopus like ships, armadas of small shops, giant UFOs to describe a few. It’s fast paced, always changing and fresh and action that keeps you coming back for more. Invaders attack you from all directions and memorising where UFOs appear is required so avoid the hot spots and keep one eye on your lives. If you are overwhelmed and lose you can restart from any stage you’ve reached so it’s only a minor setback and the line gap between victory and defeat is always attainable.

It likes a game from 1978 with a 2010 makeover and all the graphics are made up from a simple colour palate to reflect the original, the background constantly changes make the game stimulation as a visual event and not just a game. You evolve fro 2D to 3D as you reach the final stages the music is excellent and turns eerie and reflect the action perfectly.

There are also a series of very tough bonus stages as well as the normal mode as well as a mode that generates levels from the music on your hard drive and a mode the generates a random 99 levels every time you play and well worth buying.
