Hydrophobia review
The Official Xbox Magazine review of Hydrophobia review is an 8/10 on the XBLA game (XBOX Live Arcade) . Dark Energy Digital Hydrophobia claustrophobic feel is thanks to the mechanic of being semi-submerged underwater for much of the game is praised by Critic Mike Channell.
‘Whereas Rapture had clearly sprung a lea or two when you arrived there in BioShock, the encroaching ocean never felt particularly threatening. In Hydrophobia, you genuinely feel like you’re going under. Fast.’ writes OXM.
OXM says Hydrophobia’s flagship water effects are ‘the reason to play this game’ and that it ‘leaps across the psychological barrier that usually separates XBLA games from fully-fledged Xbox 360 games’. You’ll feel like you’ve got your tenner’s worth’.
OXM says it’s a ‘compelling adventure’ with ‘great water physics’ and ‘detailed visuals’ and should make Hydrophobia a hit. Players have to think more about their approach to the game rather than shoot everything. Some of the voices are a little bit poor and the ending arrives a little to soon but shouldn’t detract from the game.
